LIMA – A small plane flying over the popular Nazca Lines, located some 300 kilometers (186 miles) south of Lima, crashed on the weekend, killing the two crewmembers and the four British tourists who were on board, Radio Programas del Peru, or RPP, reported.

The accident occurred at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, 10 minutes after the small plane took off from the Maria Reiche airport in Peru’s Ica region on a regular tourist flight.

The plane, which belonged to the firm Air Nazca, apparently experienced engine problems and the pilot and copilot tried to make an emergency landing in a nearby field.

Air Nazca specializes in making tourist flights over the immense lines and drawings – clearly visible only from the air – created by one of Peru’s ancient peoples. The Nazca Lines are one of the country’s main tourist attractions.

The emergency landing attempt, however, failed and resulted in the plane being completely destroyed, killing the Peruvian pilot and copilot, as well as the four passengers, RPP said.

A team of firefighters and the prosecutor of the nearby town of Villa Alegre were dispatched to the crash site to recover the bodies and take them to the hospital morgue in the city of Nazca.

Two of the tourists were identified as Andrew Brow, 30, and Jay Lee, 39.

Another small plane hired by three Chilean and three Peruvian tourists that was also flying over the Nazca Lines crashed on Feb. 25, killing all six passengers and the pilot.

The famous lines, up to 300 meters (yards) long, are located in Ica, a region in Peru’s southern coastal area.

The most representative figures are known as the Spider, the Monkey and the Hummingbird, as well as the Condor, Seagull, Snail, Whale, Snake and Llama, among others.

Archaeologists believe that the geoglyphs, which cover a large portion of the pampa, were made by the Nazca, a pre-Inca civilization that inhabited the zone between the 1st and 6th centuries of the modern era

Don't be too hard on Charice. We all know that English is not her native language. I do agree that the "uhhmms" are quite a lot, but you see even Americans, who are native speakers, say this type of filler all the time. Fillers such as "uhhmm" and "you know" are commonly a part of speech that are intended to fill in the gaps in between words or help the speaker to buy a little time to prepare for the next words in an utterance.

2. All programs on Discovery Health-TLC must stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants and the false heroics behind those actions. In those programs’ places, programs encouraging human sterilization and infertility must be pushed. All former pro-birth programs must now push in the direction of stopping human birth, not encouraging it.

3. All programs promoting War and the technology behind those must cease. There is no sense in advertising weapons of mass-destruction anymore. Instead, talk about ways to disassemble civilization and concentrate the message in finding SOLUTIONS to solving global military mechanized conflict. Again, solutions solutions instead of just repeating the same old wars with newer weapons. Also, keep out the fraudulent peace movements. They are liars and fakes and had no real intention of ending the wars. ALL OF THEM ARE FAKE! On one hand, they claim they want the wars to end, on the other, they are demanding the human population increase. World War II had 2 Billion humans and after that war, the people decided that tripling the population would assure peace. WTF??? STUPIDITY! MORE HUMANS EQUALS MORE WAR!

4. Civilization must be exposed for the filth it is. That, and all its disgusting religious-cultural roots and greed. Broadcast this message until the pollution in the planet is reversed and the human population goes down! This is your obligation. If you think it isn’t, then get hell off the planet! Breathe Oil! It is the moral obligation of everyone living otherwise what good are they??

5. Immigration: Programs must be developed to find solutions to stopping ALL immigration pollution and the anchor baby filth that follows that. Find solutions to stopping it. Call for people in the world to develop solutions to stop it completely and permanently. Find solutions FOR these countries so they stop sending their breeding populations to the US and the world to seek jobs and therefore breed more unwanted pollution babies. FIND SOLUTIONS FOR THEM TO STOP THEIR HUMAN GROWTH AND THE EXPORTATION OF THAT DISGUSTING FILTH! (The first world is feeding the population growth of the Third World and those human families are going to where the food is! They must stop procreating new humans looking for nonexistant jobs!)

6. Find solutions for Global Warming, Automotive pollution, International Trade, factory pollution, and the whole blasted human economy. Find ways so that people don’t build more housing pollution which destroys the environment to make way for more human filth! Find solutions so that people stop breeding as well as stopping using Oil in order to REVERSE Global warming and the destruction of the planet!

7. Develop shows that mention the Malthusian sciences about how food production leads to the overpopulation of the Human race. Talk about Evolution. Talk about Malthus and Darwin until it sinks into the stupid people’s brains until they get it!!

8. Saving the Planet means saving what’s left of the non-human Wildlife by decreasing the Human population. That means stopping the human race from breeding any more disgusting human babies! You’re the media, you can reach enough people. It’s your resposibility because you reach so many minds!!!

9. Develop shows that will correct and dismantle the dangerous US world economy. Find solutions for their disasterous Ponzi-Casino economy before they take the world to another nuclear war.

10. Stop all shows glorifying human birthing on all your channels and on TLC. Stop Future Weapons shows or replace the dialogue condemning the people behind these developments so that the shows become exposes rather than advertisements of Arms sales and development!

11. You’re also going to find solutions for unemployment and housing. All these unemployed people makes me think the US is headed toward more war.

Saving the environment and the remaning species diversity of the planet is now your mindset. Nothing is more important than saving them. The Lions, Tigers, Giraffes, Elephants, Froggies, Turtles, Apes, Raccoons, Beetles, Ants, Sharks, Bears, and, of course, the Squirrels.

The Green Party is celebrating news that Pete Bethune is to come home.

“Pete Bethune is a brave Kiwi who protected whales when his Government would not and we look forward to his return to NZ,” Dr Russel Norman, Green Party co-leader said today.

Pete has been on trial in Japan for boarding a whaling vessel and has was today given a suspended sentence of two years.

Pete Bethune’s boat the Ady Gil was rammed by a Japanese whaling vessel in January this year. Pete boarded the whaling vessel to make a citizen’s arrest of the captain under the New Zealand Maritime Crimes Act 1999.

“The Key Government’s lethargic attitude to illegal whaling is epitomised by this lack of concern for Pete. Not only has the New Zealand Government spent years not enforcing the Moratorium on Commercial Whaling and the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, but it has left the Kiwi activists who do so high and dry by not pursuing the Maritime New Zealand Investigation,” Dr Norman said today.

“If New Zealand stood by its traditional anti-whaling allies and took a case to the International Court of Justice for an immediate injunction on whaling in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary, we could have a result as early as next year. With no whaling in the sanctuary, there will be no whale wars with activists.

“For as long as the Government fails to take action to stop whaling in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary, there will be activists saving the whales. John Key needs to step up and protect the whales,” Dr Norman said today.

They say the nurse suffered a non-life-threatening wound while trying to subdue the patient Tuesday afternoon outside the hospital's Heart and Vascular Center. They say he was rushed to the emergency unit for treatment.

The Danbury News Times newspaper says the patient accidentally shot himself after the attack while being restrained. There's been no word on his condition or his identity. It's unclear what charges he's facing.

I just can't understand why anyone would waste their time voting for Haeley Vaughn and Tim Urban. These two had the worst vocals by far - their performances literally verged on torture - yet, they still managed to move on to next week.

And I don't want to hear any excuses about those lame Web sites that tell voters to "vote for the worst contestants." (Vaughn and Urban were the unanimous choices of those sites). It is the voters who wasted their votes - and their time - by doing this. They are ones sitting in front of the television watching the show for hours every week. So why in the world would they want to spend that time listening to bad music? PLEASE: If you care enough to vote, vote for the person you think is the best. Otherwise, what's the point of watching?

As for my other two locks - Janell Wheeler got voted off, but John Park was voted through to next week.

I am actually not upset about Park making it through. The kid can sing, he just chose a terrible song to sing when he picked Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child." I thought that choice and his lack any of backstory was going to hurt him. If I were picking the worst performance of Wednesday night - behind Urban, of course - I would've chosen Tyler Grady, who was the last one voted off Thursday night's show.

But I have to agree with Grady's assessment of why he was voted off. Grady said he didn't find out until it was too late that the judges didn't like his 70's shtick. And seconds later, the flashback of all the losers showed the judges gushing over his retro persona. Randy even called him "Tyler Morrison." These contestants are putting the biggest opportunity of their lives in the hands of the Idol judges. The least the judges can do is be consistent with their feedback.

And I feel bad for the other two contestants voted off Thursday night - Ashley Rodriguez and Joe Munoz - who fell victim to voting America's horrible decision to keep Vaughn and Urban around.

I just hope that some record company somewhere heard Munoz nail Jason Mraz's "You and I Both" after getting voted off and gives him a legitimate shot. And yes, Tim Urban, the cameras did catch you after the announcement looking as flabbergasted as if Oprah had just given you a new car.

After Tuesday and Wednesday's less than impressive performances, Idol producers gave the contestants a little inspiration in the form of performances by Season 8 finalist Allison Iraheta and that season's winner Kris Allen.

Before his performance, Allen chatted with Ryan Seacrest about his recent visit to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. With a montage of clips from that trip playing on the screen behind him, Allen sang The Beatles' "Let it Be" accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and a piano. The rendition wasn't the best I've ever heard - or even the tenth best - but it is available for download on iTunes with all proceeds benefiting Haiti relief efforts. It is a cause worth downloading a song for, at the very least.

Well my friends, until next week, when we'll surely have more terrible performances to bash and baffling voting results to ponder. But I am optimistic that most of the contestants will do better next week, now that their Week 1 jitters are behind them.

Kevin Eubanks out of 'Tonight Show'

NBC confirmed online reports today that Kevin Eubanks, Jay Leno's affable bandleader, will step down from his post sometime after original installments of "The Tonight Show" resume in March.
Eubanks told the Peacock Network he wants to try other things, a network insider said, though it's still not clear when he'll abdicate his late night gig (or whether the entire band will go with him).
For now, he is expected to be present for Leno's much-talked about return to "Tonight" on March 1.
Eubanks' potential replacement and the band's status is one of many logistical issues confronting Leno, as he and executive producer Debbie Vickers prepare for their next chapter in late night.
One thing's for certain: he and his staff won't return to "The Tonight Show's" old sound stage on the Burbank lot, much less take over the fancy new digs that were built for Conan O'Brien in Universal City.

3 Tesla Motors employees die in East Palo Alto plane crash

Three employees of Tesla Motors Inc. were killed Wednesday morning in the crash of a small plane in East Palo Alto, the electric car maker's chief executive said in a statement.
"We are withholding their identities as we work with the relevant authorities to notify the families," Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, said in a statement.
The plane crashed into a residential neighborhood shortly before 8 a.m., sparking house fires, downing power lines and damaging several cars, but authorities said no one other than the plane’s three occupants were killed.
"We are working on recovery of the deceased," said Menlo Park Fire Protection Chief Harold Schapelhouman, addressing reporters down the block from where the plane crashed. "We have three dead. They were in the fuselage. There are miraculously no reports of anyone else injured."

The street where the place crashed was dotted with orange cones indicating where parts of the aircraft landed. Bodies covered with yellow blankets lay under a tree.
The Cessna 310 was registered to Air Unique Inc. of Santa Clara, owned by Doug Bourn, 57, a senior electrical engineer at Tesla Motors. It took off from Palo Alto Airport and was headed to Hawthorne, where Tesla has operations. A spokeswoman for the company said it was still seeking information about the crash and could not confirm whether the plane was traveling on company business.
The plane took off in thick fog and hit power lines and a power tower, which collapsed, authorities said. Parts of the plane were strewn over several blocks.
"As tragic as this is, we were very fortunate that no one else got hurt," Schapelhouman said.
A portion of one of the plane’s wings hit an occupied house in front of a day-care center. The center was unscathed but 50% of the house was destroyed, Schapelhouman said.
Other parts of the plane landed on a carport next door, destroying it. The engine of the plane was embedded in the garage wall of yet a third house.

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of those actors who doesn't always seem to get the respect he deserves. Yes, he starred in "Titanic" years ago, which catapulted him to fame and earned him roles he may not have been ready for. (Then there was "The Beach," which no one was ready for.) Maybe he was just considered too pretty. But thanks to forming a mutually beneficial relationship with director Martin Scorsese, he has become more selective. He has chosen roles that showcase his talents in films that are well crafted. In advance of "Shutter Island," the latest Scorsese-DiCaprio film opening this weekend, some of their films air tonight. First is "The Departed" at 8 p.m., the 2007 mob film that won Scorsese his first directing Oscar as well as best film. It has an all-star cast of DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson. At 11 p.m. is "The Aviator," in which DiCaprio plays the legendary director/aviator Howard Hughes. This role earned DiCaprio an Oscar nomination. I doubt that "Shutter Island" will earn similar acclaim, but at least DiCaprio has found his groove. FX

Priceline 4Q Profit More Than Doubles As Bookings Soar

Priceline.com Inc.'s (PCLN) fourth-quarter profit more than doubled as the online travel company's bookings continued to soar.
Shares jumped 6.7% to $227.20 in after-hours trading as revenue topped the company's bullish expectations and it projected strong first-quarter results. Shares have more than tripled over the past 12 months.
The company pointed to the strong performance of its international business, where gross bookings soared 70% on a local currency basis due to new markets, growth in hotel supply and results from its Agoda.com site in Asia.
Frederick Moran, analyst at Benchmark Company, said the results also showed Priceline was solidifying its lead in the European hotels booking business.
"It's increasingly clear that Priceline has the best mousetrap in the European hotel business," he said.
Priceline expects first-quarter earnings of $1.54 to $1.64 a share with revenue up 23% to 27%. It also expects gross travel bookings to rise 42% to 48%. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters projected earnings of $1.41 with revenue rising 27% to $586 million.
The company and its rivals have responded to the recession by cutting booking fees, providing some price guarantees and offering more flight-and-hotel packages. The moves have helped them to increase market share, reversing several years of lost bookings to the Web sites of hoteliers and airlines.
President and Chief Executive Jeffery H. Boyd said while Priceline continues to perform well as economic conditions have stabilized, growth rates are expected to decelerate in the second half of 2010 as the company's results are compared against periods of relatively stronger business performance.
Moran said the deceleration wasn't unexpected.
"Difficult comps for a company like Priceline shouldn't inhibit them from seeing revenue growth in excess of 20%, startling growth for such a large company," he said.
Priceline, known for its "Name Your Own Price" business, posted a fourth-quarter profit of $78.5 million, or $1.55 a share, up from $34.1 million, or 75 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding stock-based compensation and other items, earnings rose to $1.99 a share from $1.29. Revenue climbed 33% to $541.8 million.
Gross bookings, or the value of all travel services bought online through Priceline's sites, jumped 53% to $2.26 billion. Hotel-room reservations soared 60%, and airline ticket sales increased 16%.

Fabianski was standing in for the injured Manuel Almunia, and his errors could cost Arsenal dear if they fail to progress to the quarter final stage.

Porto took the lead in the eleventh minute, when Fabianski, who had strayed too far off his line, dived backwards to bundle a low cross from Silvestre Varela into his own net.

Arsenal got back in the game seven minutes later through when a Sol Campbell header levelled the scores, and secured Arsenal a crucial away goal.

It was Campbell's first European appearance since scoring in the 2006 Champions League Final against Barcelona in 2006.

But Porto restored their lead shortly after the break following another Fabianski blunder.

Fabianski picked up a Campbell backpass, before Radamel Falcao scored from a quickly taken free kick inside the penalty area.
